Desperately running out of ideas and having no other viable choice, I decided to write my film class term paper on Countdown - My own movie. I shrugged aside the irony of the situation has I handed it in, knowing full well that I would get an F or worse (At best). Little did I know that not only did I get an A on the project, but the professor was so impressed with Countdown that she showed it today to our film class, an audience of almost 50-60 people. Coincidentally, our film class is held in an actual theatre with those cool reclining chairs and all. So I finally got to see Countdown on the Big Screen (Literally).

According to the professor, we were apparently very 'philosophical':

"I noticed how Brian put the characters at certain screen positions. It's typical in film convention for women to be situated at the left of the screen in order to accentuate their lowly stature because the left hand side of the screen is inherently visually weaker. In Countdown, the hostage is always shot on the right - A position of authority, power, and menace."

"You played alot with spatial quantity and I liked that alot. The overthrowing of workplace conventions is a pertinent theme I got from your story."

"The film had alot of moral fiber to it - Of greed, the love of one's family, and above all, vengence."

"I loved the cultural disposition of Countdown."

"Countdown has more fireworks than the Fourth of July"

Unfortunately, we didn't get to finish the entire film because the professor did a long exposition on Countdown's motifs & themes (Which I myself didn't know existed but I nodded vigorously nonetheless). Pity they didn't get to watch the whole show but I guess something's better than nothing. I think I got my point across though. Overanalyzed film-literature for the win! (Damn that sounded so nerdy)

Anyway, I now have a bunch of people asking me for DVDs. I was quite surprised though - I thought I was screwed after hearing the countless bursts of uncontrollable laughter directed at Jordan in that particular scene. I guess people, irregardless of culture or nationality, know how to spot a jackass comic relief.
